I remember reading a scary story about a girl with a ribbon around her neck and at the end she takes it off and dies because her head falls off :/

I remembered it as well so I looked it up. I think it was part of a book filled with scary stories. It is called,"The Green Ribbon" and it is by Alvin Schwartz.
